How to save money on your bathroom remodel

Kotz Showroom can help redesign and modernize your bathroom.

Whether you’re shopping for cars, a house, or a family vacation it’s easy to just throw your hands up in frustration and say, “I can’t afford that.” Kotz Heating, Cooling & Plumbing wants you to know it doesn’t have to be that way when it comes to remodeling your bathroom.

According to one national magazine article from 2015 the AVERAGE cost for a full bathroom remodel was more than 16-thousand dollars. We’re talking four years ago! No wonder some folks are scared away by sticker shock. Let’s take a closer look at some ways to make that number more affordable for people who don’t have money growing trees.

Be reasonable and smart when choosing your materials especially when it comes to the three big-ticket items tubs, vanities, and tile.

Bathtubs

Is there any reason to buy a bathtub costing thousands of dollars? How many times do you actually take a bath rather than a shower? You may think a jetted tub will be cool in your Waterford, MI home, but they are expensive up front, require extra electrical work, and in some locations extra permits. Honestly, very few people use them, and research shows many builders don’t even include bathtubs in new homes.

Vanity & countertop

This is often the centerpiece of a bathroom so we’re not telling you to buy the cheapest one you can find. However, you should also be realistic about what you can afford. When you come to the Kotz Showroom we will show you vanities at various price points. We will explain to you why one is more expensive and what value you are getting for the money. Then it’s up to you to choose the one to fit your budget and tastes.

Tile

This is another area where you will likely have to compromise on your bathroom remodel. Top of the line materials can easily run 15 to 20 dollars a square foot. Most of what you’re paying for is the appearance. While that’s important, it’s our experience you can find attractive tile for less than half the price you would pay for the premium product.

Even with all that good information, here is what you need to keep in mind when it comes to a bathroom remodel or any home improvement: Between 50% and 75% of the cost is the labor. When you choose Kotz to design and remodel your bathroom, we will be your general contractor.

So, please don’t get frustrated. Call Kotz Heating, Cooling & Plumbing and let us demonstrate how you can have a completely remodeled bathroom that fits your budget. Be sure to like and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for great information throughout the year.
