How to Pick Bathroom Faucets

There may have been a time when the feeling about bathroom faucets was, “A faucet, is a faucet, is a faucet.” Those days are long gone. Now bathroom faucets are often the crown jewel of a bathroom remodel in your Waterford, MI home. The good news is the number of choices is nearly unlimited which is also the bad news. The folks at the Kotz Showroom are here to help you sort through some of the basic options.

Faucet types

You may be limited in your choices if the faucet is a retrofit; meaning it has to conform with your existing bathroom vanity. If you are starting from scratch in your bathroom remodel, the sky is the limit.

Single-hole

These combine the spout and the faucet handle into a single unit. They require only a single drilled hole in the sink and are great for smaller sinks.

Center set faucets

These fit the standard three-hole sinks. They can come with two handles (hot & cold) or a single lever.

Widespread mounts

These will have three separate pieces, two handles and the spout. They tend to be larger and are available in many unique designs.

Wall mount

These are used with freestanding sinks. Note: this type of bathroom faucet has become more popular in recent years.

Finishes

This is where some people can get overwhelmed by the number of choices. Manufacturers make their bathroom faucets available in a variety of metals and finishes such as:

  • Polished chrome
  • Brushed chrome
  • Polished nickel
  • Brushed nickel
  • Bronze
  • Polished brass
  • Stainless steel

You get the idea, and that’s only scratching the surface! Here are some tips from our bathroom designer, Alex Brewer, to help you decide:

  • Come to the Kotz showroom in person to see with your own eyes
  • Forget about the type of metal and concentrate on what looks good to you
  • Consider how the faucet will work for ease of use and cleaning
  • Use the same finish throughout the bathroom (towel bars, light fixtures, etc.)
  • Polished surfaces need constant attention to sparkle
  • Brushed finishes can hide fingerprints & water spots

Style

Just like clothing designers, bathroom faucet designers love to express their creativity. We have dozens of styles on display at the showroom and can show you hundreds of choices in catalogs and online. Exotic designs are more expensive, but we have choices to fit every budget.

Finally

There are many other factors to consider when you make your purchase. Low flow and high-efficiency faucets can save thousands of gallons of water every year. There are also features like motion-activated faucets and even sanitizing sinks that use ozone to kill germs on your hands.

Don’t go it alone

With the plethora of choices in faucets, bathroom vanities, and other fixtures, doesn’t it make sense to call on the experts in the Kotz Showroom for your bathroom remodeling project?
