3 Most Common Water Heater Issues & What To Do

Water heaters are found in virtually every American home and are used every day for bathing, cooking and many other daily activities that require hot water. However, like other household appliances, water heaters can develop problems that require troubleshooting and repairs.

Three Common Water Heater Problems:

1. No Hot Water: The most common issue with a water heater is the lack of hot water. If you turn on the faucet and there is no hot water, it could be due to a faulty heating element or a tripped circuit breaker. To fix this, check the circuit breaker and reset it if. If that doesn’t solve the problem, the heating element may be faulty. Call Kotz Heating, Cooling & Plumbing for a water heater repair.

2. Leaks: Leaks are another common issue that water heaters experience. The leaks can be from the tank or the pipes leading to or from the water heater. A leaking water heater can cause serious damage to your home, so it’s important to fix the issue as soon as possible. First, turn off the power supply to the water heater and shut off the water supply to the tank. Next, identify the source of the leak and repair or replace the damaged component. If you’re not sure how to fix the leak, it’s best to call Kotz to schedule one of our professional plumbers to do the job for you.

3. Strange Noises: If your water heater is making strange noises, it’s possible that sediment has accumulated  in the tank. Sediment buildup can cause the tank to overheat and make popping or cracking sounds. To fix this, turn off the power supply to the water heater and shut off the water supply to the tank. Then, drain the tank and remove the sediment buildup. You can do this by attaching a hose to the tank’s drain valve and flushing out the sediment. Once you’ve removed the sediment, refill the tank and turn the power back on.
