In honor of Frank Kotz celebrating his 20th year of owning Kotz Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, we decided to sit down with Frank and hear from him how this dream began and what it took to get to where the company is today. You have owned Kotz now for 20 years. How did you come to own the company? My dad passed away when I was only 1 year old, leaving us with several rental properties. Mom went around fixing everything she could fix herself to save money, and one day her hair caught on fire while fixing a furnace. I thought it was cool and immediately knew I wanted to work in heating & cooling.
Did you have a heating/cooling background before purchasing Kotz? I worked at two companies prior to starting the business, attended HVAC technical school in Pennsylvania, and eventually started my own company.
What was the company named before you owned it? Kotz is a start-up. I purchased several companies over the years. When I first started I was working out of the house and garage until someone almost ran the family dog over and we decided it was time to move.
What are you most excited about since acquiring Brinker’s to add to your services for your customers? It’s a business that’s been serving since 1929 and lots of people relied on them—including us. I hated to see them go away after so many years in business and felt it was important to save the history and support. Brinker’s recommended our company for 15
years for heating & cooling projects. They knew we’d take care of their clients as someone they could trust with the company. We moved the showroom to a new location for better access to customers, the service area and enhanced offerings. Come check it out. What are your short-term goals for the company? To put more structure in place and focus on more training with staff—we want to focus on our employees to give an even better experience and service to our customers.
What are your long-term goals for the company? We have a 10-year plan that includes an expanded service territory and are looking to grow to 100 employees. We want to keep building and continually growing each year to achieve this. The plan is to keep the Kotz family owning this and continuing the support for generations
